Communication Delegation from Kenya Visits NCA National Office

November 11, 2022

A delegation from the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK), East Africa’s largest Communication association, made NCA and the National Office a destination during their annual Washington, DC tour in October.

The group of six Communication executives and scholars included PRSK President Arik Karani and Scott Bellows, an Assistant Professor of Management at the United States International University-Africa and a PRSK member. During a week in the Nation’s Capital filled with leadership and management training sessions, networking, and meetings with congressional staffers, Bellows said the group was eager to visit NCA, the discipline’s leading and oldest organization. They were especially interested in NCA’s journals and how they can enhance their own. Journal dissemination, establishing quality controls and standards, and approaches to building a bridge between applied and academic research were topics that dominated the conversation.

“It was quite a remarkable experience sitting and learning from you and brainstorming on future areas of collaboration,” Karani said of the group’s visit with NCA Executive Director Shari Miles-Cohen and other members of the National Office staff. Well, that future is now. Miles-Cohen will represent (virtually) NCA this month at the inaugural East Africa Public Relations Week Conference in Mombasa, Kenya, Nov. 14-18. As the event’s host, PRSK invited her to deliver a video opening address on Nov. 14 on a topic that reflects the conference theme of the importance of Communication in advancing the quality of human life and in solving human problems.
