Pallavi Guha, Ph.D., joined the National Communication Association (NCA) as Director of Research, Publications and Professional Advancement in April 2026. She is an award-winning media researcher, and a former international journalist with over 20 years of experience. Her appointment to the NCA leadership team follows a successful term as a Fall 2025 Visiting Scholar at the Center for Advanced Research in Global Communication (CARGC) at the University of Pennsylvania and a tenured Associate Professor of Journalism at a large four-year university in Maryland.

An internationally recognized scholar, Guha is a leading expert on global media and political campaigns, generative AI in journalism, digital activism, sexual violence advocacy, and civic participation across the U.S. and South Asia. Her research has been published in Social Media + Society, Women's Studies in Communication, Global Media and Communication, AI & Society, the International Journal of Communication, and Biography: An Interdisciplinary Quarterly, among others. She is the author of Hear #MeToo in India: News, Social Media, and Anti-Rape and Sexual Harassment Activism (Rutgers University Press, (2021), which received reviews in Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Cultural Sociology, and Ms. Magazine, and has become a foundational text in scholarship on feminist digital activism. Guha has also secured research and teaching grants totaling over $61,000 from several funders, including the Solutions Journalism Network.

Pallavi's research impact extends beyond the academy. She has contributed to 2022 White House Gender Policy Task Force led U.S. National Plan to end Gender-based Violence, delivered keynote addresses on multiple continents, spoken at the 2026 UN CSW side events, 2025 UN DPPO event, the U.S. Air Force Academy event, and been featured on the BBC, Voice of America, Press Trust of India, Ms. Magazine, and other media.

Pallavi has also previously served as Director of the Legislative Assembly for the NCA, and board member at Girls Report, Inc., which advances civic media journalism for young girls in Nepal. Guha also serves on the AEJMC Presidential Strategic Planning Task Force and chaired the AEJMC Resolutions Committee for the Public Forum and Response division and served on the AEJMC AI Taskforce.

Before academia, Pallavi was a Senior Correspondent and Editor at The Times of India, a researcher and radio producer for BBC Television News and Current Affairs in London, and other media organizations. As a journalist, Pallavi had the opportunity to cover elections in India, U.K. and the U.S.
