The Research Council advances the creation, sharing, and promotion of communication scholarship. They oversee key initiatives, including reviewing applications for the Charles H. Woolbert Research Award and managing the application processes for the NCA Research Cultivation Grants, Research Elevation Grants (starting in 2026), and the Mid-Career Scholars Writing Retreat. The Council also secures hosts for the Doctoral Honors Seminar, identifies participants for advocacy events in Washington, DC that support the social sciences and humanities, and contributes to convention programming.
