Hinck examines u201cfan-based citizenship,u201d the mobilization of fan bases for political purposes, such as Harry Potter fans fighting for fair trade or football fans volunteering to serve as youth mentors. Traditionally, people have often engaged in civic activities through churches, political parties, or other organizations. Hinck argues that fan-based citizenship represents a shift in civic action and offers new opportunities for political engagement.
This book is the winner of the NCA Political Communication Divisionu2019s 2020 Roderick P. Hart Outstanding Book Award.
