Traditionally, people have often engaged in civic activities through churches, political parties, or other organizations. Hinck argues that fan-based citizenship represents a shift in civic action and offers new opportunities for political engagement.

This book is the winner of the NCA Political Communication Divisionu2019s 2020 Roderick P. Hart Outstanding Book Award.
