Join the National Communication Association (NCA) on Thursday, April 17 at 3 p.m. EST for a transformative virtual event that delves into the crucial role of family communication in effective caregiving. Drawing on insights from Affection Exchange Theory, Relational Maintenance, and broader family communication scholarship, it offers research-based approaches, practical tools, and strategies to help families strengthen bonds, navigate caregiving, and thrive together.
Join us with top and emerging family and interpersonal communication scholars as we arm broad audiences with key insights from communication scholarship. Family communication plays a vital role in providing care, support, and resilience during times of need. | | 2025 Doctoral Honors Seminar (DHS) | |
The 2025 NCA Doctoral Honors Seminar (DHS) will be held at the University of Tennessee from June 17 to June 20. The DHS brings together promising doctoral students and distinguished faculty members from across the discipline and around the nation to discuss current topics in Communication. The theme for this year’s DHS is “Hills, Hollers, and Rising Scholars: The Future of Communication Research.”
Up to 30 students will be chosen to participate based on a brief application narrative and a recommendation from their advisor. Participants will arrive the afternoon of Tuesday, June 17, participate in two full seminar days on the 18th and 19th and then depart mid-day on Friday, June 20. Doctoral students participating in the seminar will be provided hotel lodging and most meals. Applications are due Friday, April 11 and can be completed online.
This year doctoral students are invited to apply with any interests across the discipline to one of three specialty seminar areas, focused on broad theoretical and methodological approaches. These areas in which students apply will be media theory and research, rhetorical and performance theory and research, and communication theory and research.
Questions regarding the DHS can be directed to the Knoxville planning committee chair, Dr. Jenny Crowley (jcrowle3@utk.edu).
