NCA’s 112th Annual Convention Explores Move/ments in Communication: Calls for Submissions Opens 1/30

The 112th Annual Convention occurring Nov. 19–22, in New Orleans and will explore move/ment(s) in the field of Communication. Movement is the defining feature of humans in the 21st century. We are a species on the move – as migrants, tourists, refugee, workers, asylees, and students. Movement brings flux, assumes risk, implies intermixing, and sows the seeds for “both/and” thinking. Move/ment is full of interpretive possibilities for scholars, teachers, and practitioners of Communication. The call for submissions opens on Jan. 30 and registration and discounted hotel room blook bookings launches in July.

Recording Available: CIDD Virtual Debate on Open Border Policies

NCA’s Committee for International Discussion and Debate (CIDD) hosted an International Public Debate Demonstration featuring four teams of student debaters representing the U.S., Japan, Slovenia, and Tanzania on Jan.16, 2026. The online event highlighted the power of dialogue across borders and the generative possibilities of deliberation in motion with the resolution topic of, “Do open borders benefit national economies and societies?” Modeled on British Parliamentary debate, but adapted for the session’s interactive, public-facing format, the demonstration emphasized stylistic diversity, contrasting argument traditions, and the rich communicative practices that emerge when students from different cultural, linguistic, and educational contexts engage one another.
