We received over 4,400 submissions this year—breaking last year’s record of 4,100+ and reaching the highest number since before the pandemic. On Wednesday, April 9, NCA President Jeanetta Sims charged a subcommittee of the Executive Committee (EC) to form a working group to “share insights and strategies for proactively supporting NCA members and the Association’s mission amid current socio-political times.” You can view the full Charge here.
NCA’s Executive Committee has released a Statement in Support of NCA’s Members and Mission. In addition, we, the members of this working group, the PSWG, are dedicated to compiling a summary of how our members have been affected and how our members desire for NCA to be of support. Please take a moment to respond to this anonymous survey as soon as possible and no later than Friday, May 16 by midnight Pacific Time.

We are excited to announce that the 2025 Call for Nominations for NCA leadership positions is now open! We are seeking individuals for key leadership roles such as NCA Second Vice President, members of the Legislative Assembly, Councils, Standing Committees, National Award Selection Committees, and more. These positions offer a chance to collaborate with others and support the strategic plan of the Association for advancing communication scholarship and practice.

| | Institute for Faculty Development 2025 | |
The 2025 NCA Institute for Faculty Development (IFFD), formerly known as the “Hope Conference,” will be held virtually (on Zoom) July 7-11, organized and hosted by Duquesne University of Pittsburgh. The general purpose of the IFFD is to stay abreast of ongoing changes and issues in communication theory and research, with an eye to enriching instructional insights and practices. This five-day conference offers participants an opportunity to network with fellow undergraduate scholar-teachers and learn from and with leading scholars in the field.
Planned workshop topics include communication technologies/creator economy; organizational communication/platformization; digital creator economy; Africana philosophy & rhetoric, rhetorical theory & comparative intellectual history; research methods; impact of digital world on culture and labor, and more. Confirmed facilitators are: Jess Rauchberg, assistant professor of communication technology, Seton Hall University; Jess Maddox, associate professor, University of Alabama; Omedi Ochieng, University of Colorado Boulder; Sarah Tracy, school director and professor, Arizona State University; Nessa Keddo, associate professor in media, diversity and technology, King’s College London; and Cheryll Ruth Soriano, professor and research fellow, De La Salle University (Philippines).
Up to 60 participants will be able to attend on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees must be current NCA members. To register, please complete the registration form. The application deadline will be 11:59 p.m., May 31. Application requirements and procedures will be announced soon.
