The NCA Executive Committee will recommend affiliates to the Legislative Assembly for approval based on the following criteria:
- The organization must demonstrate a scholarly and professional interest in the Communication discipline.
- The organization must be an independent, legally incorporated nonprofit entity with a formal organizational structure, identifiable membership, and a commitment to fostering connections among Communication scholars, teachers, and/or researchers. The organization must have been operational for a minimum of three years prior to application.

NCA Approval Process:
All renewal and application materials must be submitted by July 1. The Legislative Assembly will review and approve affiliate applications in November. Following approval, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be signed by the NCA Executive Director and returned to the affiliate organization, and will take effect in the calendar year following November approval.
