ALTA Conference Focuses on “Recovering Argument”
The 19th biennial NCA/AFA Summer Conference on Argumentation was held July 30 – August 2, 2015, in Alta, Utah. One hundred fifty scholars, teachers, and students of argumentation presented research and discussed the most pressing issues in argumentation studies, all while enjoying the scenic climes of Utah’s Wasatch mountains. The conference theme, “Recovering Argument,” opened many avenues of research and interaction. The conference included compelling presentations from conference keynoters Former NCA President V. William Balthrop and current NCA President Carole Blair, as well as spotlight panels on the recovery of argument in the Ebola crisis and the recovery of the legacy of Bruce Gronbeck for argumentation studies. Held since 1979, the Summer Conference on Argumentation is made possible by contributions from NCA, the American Forensic Association, the University of Utah’s Department of Communication, and the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communication & Journalism.
