Pilot
community projects-Carver Ch Trust
The
Carver Charitable Trust makes grants to IRS 501(c)(3), tax-exempt
organizations. It does not
make grants directly to individuals, although some of its grants to
organizations may be distributed to individuals in the form of
scholarships and research awards. The
great majority of grants are given to organizations located in and for
projects to be conducted within the state of Iowa and a portion of
western Illinois, as well as to other organizations in which Mr. Carver
had an interest during his lifetime.
Generally speaking, the Carver Trust is interested in supporting
medical and scientific research, scholarships, general education and
programs addressing the needs of youth.
Issues
important to the Trustees when considering applications are as follows:
·
Helping those who are attempting to overcome significant
obstacles in obtaining an education.
·
Medical and scientific research that has great potential for
practical application.
·
Pilot projects. Getting
a good idea started that may be extended and supported in the wider
community, particularly where Trust support may have significant
leverage.
·
Projects and organizations with a strong volunteer component.
·
Projects where objectives and methods for evaluation of results
are clearly presented.
·
Projects possessing an innovative spirit.
The Carver Trust does not generally provide annual operating
support or award endowments, although the Trustees realize that
endowments are sometimes necessary to accomplish the long-term goals of
a proposal.
The Carver Trust does not support annual campaigns or provide
direct grants to organizations without 501(c)(3) status, individuals, or
for religious and political activities, annual fundraising benefits or
program advertising.
