CALL FOR ACTIVITIES for Communication Teacher

Communication Teacher, a quarterly teaching resource dedicated to the identification and promotion of excellent teaching practices in the K-12, community college, and university classrooms, is now soliciting manuscripts on teaching activities. Communication educators in all contexts are invited to submit original teaching activities that can be implemented in the classroom. Although teaching activities that can be used in the basic/hybrid communication college course are encouraged, teaching activities that can be used in other courses (i.e., communication research methods, communication technologies, communication theory, family, gender, health, interpersonal, intercultural, mass, organizational, public relations, rhetoric, small group) are especially welcome.

All submissions should be instructional activities that can be conducted in either the K-12 or college classroom. Each submission should contain the following components: (1) a brief title; (2) the objective of the activity; (3) the course(s) for which the activity is intended; (4) an introductory paragraph, with a brief rationale for conducting the activity; (5) an explanation of the activity, including any preparation/preliminary steps; (6) a debriefing paragraph; (7) an appraisal of the activity, including any limitations or variations; and (8) references and suggested readings (a minimum of three, a maximum of five). Submissions should generally contain no more than 1500 words.

Manuscripts must conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition, 2001) and should not be under editorial review for other journals. Submissions must be accompanied by a detachable title page that includes author name and professional title, title of the activity, complete mailing address, phone number, fax number, e-mail address, and history of the submission. All material identifying the author(s) or the institution should be removed from the manuscript. Manuscripts accepted for publication will eventually need to be submitted on a 3.5" IBM-compatible disk formatted for either Word or WordPerfect for Windows.

Submissions will receive blind review by at least two members of the Editorial Board. Reviewers will consider the following criteria in making their recommendations for publication: (1) uniqueness of the activity, (2) usefulness of the activity to a diverse readership, (3) contribution to instructional communication pedagogy, and (4) clarity of writing style. Manuscripts will not be returned to the author(s). The decision not to publish a manuscript is final.

Five (5) copies of the manuscript should be submitted to Kent Menzel, Editor, Communication Teacher, DePauw University, Communication Arts & Sciences,Greencastle, IN 46135-0037. Further inquiries can be made by calling 765-658-4492 or through e-mail, kmenzel@depauw.edu.
