About NCA's Webinar Series

NCA's webinars, an electronic discussion over the Internet in a radio talk show style format, are designed to showcase the work of NCA members and communication scholars. The webinar technology also allows listeners to join the conversation and to ask questions. The only technology required for participants is high speed Internet capability and the presence of a microphone, which many computers now feature.

Barack Obama: Race, Reform and Resistance

What role, if any, have racial prejudices played in the resistance to President Obama’s reform programs? Following Representative Joe Wilson’s outburst during the president’s speech before a joint session of Congress on September 9, former president Jimmy Carter proclaimed racism as a major motive behind the resistance to Obama’s proposed reforms on health care and other issues. NCA brings together an elite group of panelists who have done extensive research on race and communication to examine the issue.
