Purpose
of the Award:
The efforts of each chapter are an important element
to the success of Lambda Pi Eta at both the local and national level. Each
chapter should sponsor activities and events that help promote the goals
as outlined by the mission statement and constitution of the honorary in
addition to showing a commitment to the financial health of the chapter.
The goals of Lambda Pi Eta are (a) to recognize, foster and reward
outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies; (b) to
stimulate interest in the field of communication; (c) to promote and
encourage professional development among communication majors; (d) to
provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of
communication; (e) to establish and maintain closer relationships and
mutual understanding between speech communication studies faculty and
students; and (f) to explore options for graduate education in
communication studies. How chapters demonstrate and facilitate these goals
are what makes each chapter unique. These six goals are all important as
is raising enough funds to take action. The chapter that best exemplifies
each of these goals is awarded the Chapter of the Year Award. The chapter
honored with this distinction in turn serves as an example to the other
chapters throughout the United States.
Award
Administration:
All submissions for the Chapter of the Year Award
will be collected and distributed by the National Coordinator.
The nominations shall be reviewed by a seven-person panel: the
President and Vice-President of Lambda Pi Eta and the five members of the
Faculty Advisory Board. The
National Director of Lambda Pi Eta will serve as a tie-breaking vote if
necessary.
Selection
Procedure:
a. Self nominations and nominations by others are
accepted.
b. The nominations shall be submitted on the Chapter
of the Year Form with additional sheeta attached, if necessary.
c. Nominations are to be received by the National
Coordinator of Lambda Pi Eta by October
1.
d. Nominations will be forwarded to the Faculty
Advisory Board members and the President and Vice-President of Lambda Pi
Eta for consideration.
e. There may be more than one winner selected each
academic year.
Granting
of the Award:
a. The award winner(s) will be notified preceding the NCA Annual
Convention.
b. The award, in the form of a plaque and a check for
$200, will be presented at the Lambda Pi Eta business meeting of the NCA Annual Convention, and announced in SPECTRA (the official
newsletter of the NCA) and Simply Speaking (the official newsletter of
Lambda Pi Eta).
