National Communication Association advances communication as the discipline
that studies all forms, modes, media and consequences of communication through
humanistic, social scientific, and aesthetic inquiry.

widespread appreciation of the importance of communication in public and
private life, the application of competent communication to improve the quality
of human life and relationships, and the use of knowledge about communication
to solve human problems.
engages in two types of work related to public policy:
- Informs Discussion on Public Issues
scholarship informs discussion about public issues, and sometimes the
association takes corresponding positions on these issues. The association also provides funds to
communication scholars to translate existing communication research findings
into recommendations that can inform and impact public policy.
