The responsibility to advance the communication discipline
rests with both NCA, its individual members, and communication
departments.
An effective department begins with a carefully
articulated mission statement. Click the button to the left for criteria for

departments.
A defense of communication studies can be mounted using
evidence from numerous studies, reports, and surveys that call attention to
the importance of communication education. Click the button to
the left for a copy of a January 2000 article published in the Journal of
the Association for Communication Administration that annotates 100
such published reports.
