NCA's Legislative Assembly

To the left can be found agendas and minutes for the recent Legislative Assembly (formerly known as the Legislative Council).  

The LA meets annually during the NCA convention.

The LA  is the principal policy making body of the Association and is responsible for managing its resources and affairs. 

The Legislative Assembly consist of:

bulletThe NCA President
bulletThe NCA First and Second Vice Presidents
bulletThe NCA Second Vice President Elect
bulletThe Executive Director (without vote)
bulletThe NCA Immediate Past President
bulletThree members of the Association elected for three-year terms by each of the following regional associations: Central States Communication Association, Eastern Communication Association, Southern States Communication Association, and Western States Communication Association (at least one of the three from each region must be an elementary or secondary school teacher and at least one of the three from each region must be a teacher in a two year institution of post secondary education)
bulletA representative elected for a three-year term by the States Advisory Council
bulletOne member of the Executive Committee of the Association for Communication Administration, elected by the Executive Committee, for a three-year term
bulletThe chairpersons of the NCA Educational Policies Board, the NCA Finance Board, the NCA Publications Board, and the NCA Research Board
bulletMembers of the NCA Finance Board
bulletThe chairperson and the immediate past chairperson of each of the  Divisions of the Association
bulletThe chairperson and the immediate past chairperson of the Sections of the Association
bulletNine members-at-large elected for three year terms
bulletSix members selected for three-year terms by methods to be determined by the Legislative Assembly in each case to recognize emerging interests and critical problems and to achieve a balanced representation of teaching levels, ethnic and minority group interests, sex, age, and academic status;
bulletThe editors of the official journals of the Association
bulletOther Directors on the National staff (without vote).

A member of the Legislative Assembly representing one of the Divisions, Sections, or regional associations may be represented by an alternate, if the substitution is certified to the Executive Director by the executive officer of that unit.
