Faculty Development Programs

National Communication Association

Miami, 2003

Introduction and Disclaimer

In response to many NCA members who attend conventions seeking Faculty Development Programs, the Educational Policies board has reviewed program proposals submitted to NCA to select and showcase programs related to faculty development.  We are pleased to report that we found over 120 programs devoted to this topic!

Programs related to Faculty Development are highlighted on two different matrices.  The first matrix emphasizes programs related to curriculum and pedagogy, and focus on teaching ideas, strategies, and methods.  Furthermore, in the first matrix, programs devoted to curriculum and pedagogy are sorted by institutional type, whether it be K-12, Community College, Four Year Institutions, or Research Institutions.  Programs were placed in categories after reviewing the presenters on each panel.

The second matrix depicts programs directly related to professional and personal development.  These programs are divided by one’s career span, so programs are organized by whether they would appeal to graduate students, junior faculty (i.e., pre-tenure), post-tenure faculty, mid-career faculty, and senior faculty.  Panels listed under professional development are those that discuss publishing, surviving graduate school, issues of women and minority faculty, and the like.

We hope that you find this useful.  In addition, please consult your convention program, as some of the programs listed below may have time and/or room changes.

Enjoy the Conference and Miami!
