Who are Our Members?

The National Communication Association (NCA) is a non-profit organization of approximately 7,100 educators, practitioners, and students of communication.  They work and reside in every state and more than 20 foreign countries.

Membership is open to all individuals and organizations that support the purpose of the Association, which is to promote study, criticism, research, teaching, and application of the artistic, humanistic, and scientific principles of communication.

NCA is comprised of several types of units that represent the substantive, professional, and representative interests of its members.

Units devoted to topics of substantive study are titled Divisions. Divisions are comprised of at least 100 members. 

Members with common professional interests form Sections.

Caucuses represent the interests of members in specific demographic or socially-defined groups seeking to realize the objectives specified in the National Communication Association's Affirmative Action Statement. Caucuses may be created in response to petitions signed by at least 50 members.

Publications
NCA’s newsletter, Spectra, is sent to NCA members monthly. In addition, members may elect to receive one or more of the quarterly journals published by the association. NCA also publishes a variety of print and non­print resources, including an online directory and CRTNET News, a daily electronic newsletter. Discounts for NCA publications. Submit and view calls for papers, conference announcements, jobs ads, grant and fellowship opportunities on Spectra and Spectra Online.
Research Tools
Members enjoy online access to their journal subscriptions, access to the NCA journal database, full text for every NCA journal beginning with 1915 (one year withheld to current subscribers).
Meetings and Conferences
NCA's annual convention is held in the fall, drawing more than 4,000 participants and featuring over 1200 programs and providing exclusive opportunities for research and career advancement. Discounted registration rates to members. NCA also sponsors a variety of special interest conferences and seminars.
Special Interest Forums
NCA Divisions, Sections and other subgroups offer opportunities to share ideas in areas of common concern.
A Voice for the Profession
Through resolutions adopted by its Legislative Council, the association takes positions on issues affecting member interests.
