Thank You Submitters: It Takes a Village...

Or a whole bunch of villages . . . to create a convention!  My profound thanks to literally thousands of NCA members who submitted a stellar 4,900+ submissions by the deadline on March 27. Such robust participation at this important early stage promises a lively convention filled with a rich array of perspectives and insights.

From what I’ve seen of the submissions, quite a few take advantage of our grand location—from analyses of arguments before the Supreme Court to investigations of health communication at Walter Reed Hospital to ways in which the DC Catholic Diocese can improve its communication. A number of units used the theme of Connections as a springboard for their calls. They encouraged members, for example, to “be reflexive about our investments in disciplinary boundaries,” to “explore the ‘connections’ between ideas, people, groups, professionals, methods, [and] object domains,” to celebrate the “bridge between engaged scholarship and practice,” and to “explore connections among women working in a variety of communities, from those we work in to those we live in; from the groups we are born into to those we construct.”  The special series on DC Connections, Connections within Communication, and Connections to the Community each attracted exciting proposals as well.

Now the reviewers are hard at work.  My thanks to all for giving them an abundance of riches to consider for making Connections in Washington, DC!
